The smell of freshly cut grass. Sidelines packed with rainbows of chairs. Crisp white lines on newly-painted fields. The din of a dozen conversations. Laughter. The coach’s familiar voice. Warm, summer breezes hinting at the smell of fall. The sounds of younger siblings playing in the background. The silence of older siblings wishing they were somewhere else. Players chatting nervously over stomachs full of butterflies. The thud of soccer balls sent rolling on the ground. Or soaring in the air. The hum of anticipation.
This is the start of fall soccer.
