Academy Program

Coaching, Training, & Environment

Build a Rock-solid Foundation

Our Academy program provides players from 6 years old (7U) to 9 years old (10U) with high-level training that lays the groundwork for their long-term success in both soccer and in life. Academy teams are led by licensed and experienced coaches who are passionate about developing players’ skills and their personalities in a game-like environment with a high degree of decision making.

As players progress through PSU’s Academy program, they:

  • Learn individual skills and team concepts, preparing them for Select Soccer and beyond
  • Begin to understand key concepts of the associative game, including recognizing their roles based on different elements of the game (i.e. position of ball, teammates, opponents, goal and time and space)
  • Are introduced to game tactics that help them gain advantage over their opponents.
  • Begin to understand the game as a whole (instead of just the individual elements)
  • Learn fundamental aspects of all team sports (communication, sportsmanship, leadership, effort, etc.) which prepares them to be successful in any team environment.

Additionally, coaches use XPS Player & Game Management software along with Cruyff Football online curriculum platform, designed around Possession Style Soccer.

PSU’s Academy Program is the foundation for players’ long-term soccer success. The concepts of Passion, Skill, and Character are inherent throughout PSU’s Academy Program and it is through these concepts that we help players become great teammates, skilled players, and resilient in their efforts both on and off the field. As such, players in PSU’s Academy program are held to high standards, and are expected to continually:

  • Exhibit a desire to improve their soccer skills, abilities, and overall knowledge of the game, including a willingness to participate in PSU’s Player Excellence Program.
  • Engage actively, positively, and respectfully with their coaches, teammates, referees, opponents, and parents
  • Put in significant effort during practices and games

Ultimately, participation in PSU’s Academy Program is a significant commitment. In return, however, players develop a variety of on-field and off-field skills that set them up for success wherever their soccer journey may take them.

Determining "U" Level

street soccer

We’re excited for Street Soccer to return in Spring 2022!

In our Street Soccer program, players have the opportunity to create their own teams, make their own calls, and unconsciously develop their technical and tactical awareness–all while expressing themselves with the ball at their feet. We believe players should be able to manage themselves and have the freedom to play, interact, problem-solve, innovate, and take ownership of their participation in the game. Teams are created the day of to promote diversity, and games are played without referees to reinforce positive conflict resolution techniques. Our I-Mentor coaches will supervise each field making sure that players and facilities are safe while maintaining a fun and challenging environment.

PSU’s Street Soccer is open to all 9U to 19U players. Our Old School Street Soccer is open to any parent, soccer coach, and their significant others. Bring the whole family!

Sign up required for waiver completion. But then just lace up and show up!
